TOPIC: – COMMITMENT TO GOD AND HIS WORK (Part 1)

BIBLE PASSAGE: – 2 Corinthians 5:14 – 2

MEMORY VERSE: – “For though I preach the gospel, I have nothing to glory of; for necessity is laid upon me; yea woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel (1corinthians 9:16).

INTRODUCTION: – Everyone who comes in contact with the Lord Jesus, Having a life transforming encounter with Him, must learn to be totally committed to Him for this is His expectation from us. To Him half-hearted allegiance or divided loyalty is unacceptable.

The vision of Christ dying for us on the cross necessitated only one response from us viz; total yieldedness or abandonment to Him (Gal.2:20-21). No one can be actually committed to God without being committed to His work as commitment to God will surely lead to commitment to His work (Deut.6:4-5; Jh.14:15).

LESSON OUTLINES

1) Principle Of Commitment

To be committed to God and His works is not a mere say or decision by just anyone. There are divine demands for whosoever will be committed to God and His work. These include: –

  • Genuine Salvation; one must be born again (2Corint.5:17).
  • Have a supreme love for God and His works, making God first in everything in one’s life (Ps.78:25, 28).
  • Consecration to personal as well as corporate fellowship (Heb.10:25; Act 17:10-12, 2:41-42; 4:10-20).
  • Live a life of prayers (Rom.12:11).
  • Stand true in times of peace, problem or opposition to the faith (Jude 3).

2) Pitfalls For Commitment

Some of the things we do in our daily living can hinder our commitment to God and his work. Embracing the good things of the Church without personal commitment to God is wrong (1Sam.4:3-5).

  • Copying the worldly system (2Sam.6:1-8)
  • Having wrong motive in service to God (Acts 5:1-10, 5:16; Phil.2:3). Maybe your motive behind your service is for recognition, or position seeking, or title or public applause. All these and more are wrong motives and such people always end in the room of Ananias and Sapphira his wife (Acts 5:1-11).
  • Neglecting family responsibilities. A failed minister at home is a failed minister in ministry. You ministry must begin from your home because charity begins they say at home.

One of the qualifications of a minister of God as given by the Holy Ghost through Apostle Paul is “One that ruleth well his OWN HOUSE ……” (1Tim.3:4-5; 5:8).

  • Love of the world in God’s service (Lk.9:62; 1Jh.2:15-17). No one can serve two masters simultaneously. Neither can you serve God acceptably with reservation or selfishness. Every service to God with mixed feelings, misgiving and pollution of the world is absolutely unacceptable to God (Gen.4:1-5; Isa.55:8-9).

SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION

When we talk of consecration it means or involve basically separation (from sin, the world and people) and commitment to God alone. Everyone that will be known of God, saved eternally and rewarded at last must be fully committed to God and His kingdom. “No man having put his hands to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God. “Thus, Remember Lot’s wife” (Lk.9:62, 17:32).
