INTRODUCTION: – Many today claim all married people are not joined together by God, so they are free to marry the one God intended them to have. Some separated from spouse because they did not wed in the Church, or because they married when they were yet unbelievers. The truth is God recognizes all legal marriages and will hold people responsible for their vows (Rom.13:1-10).
LESSON OUTLINES
1) The Indissolubility Of Marriage
Marriage according to God’s original plan, is a life contract that is why it is the only institution on earth in which you receive your certificate on the day of your matriculation – your point of entry and you begin to work out the marriage to justify the certificate you received. Thus, to God marriage is indissoluble. The following reasons justify the indissolubility of marriage: –
i) Marriage is a divine institution. It is established by God, ordained by God and oversees by God. He recognizes every legal marriage either by customary law or religious law (Mt.19:4-6, Gen.2:23-25).
ii) Marriage is the oldest institution on the planet earth. It is the first and oldest institution on earth (Gen.2:23; Mt.19:4-6).
iii) The indissolubility of marriage is expressly commanded by God (Mt.19:5-6, Mal.2:16).
iv) By the examples of the Patriachs of old especially Adam and Eve (Mt.19:8).
v) Marriage make a man and his wife one flesh, with complete union of interests, fortunes, desires, joys, sorrows etc. So it is a lifelong partnership (Mt.19:5-6).
vi) Marriage is indissoluble because of the evil consequences to the partners involve, their children and others who become entangle in sin by it (Mt.19:9, Mk.7:21, Rom.1:29-31).
vii) Marriage is indissoluble because of the penalties involved by causing such evils (Mt.19:9, Gal.5:19-21; 1Corint.6:9-11).
viii) Marriage is indissoluble because there is no excuse under the Gospel for “hardness of the heart” against each other (2Corint.5:17-18; Gal.5:24; Eph.4:24).
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSION
Marriage is not an institution of man but it is of God, by God for man. And He is very much interested in our marriages. He gave the order and breaking such order is very dangerous. It is expected that the man and his wife will by all means keep to their marriage vows relying on God. No matter the differences remember you are anointed and fitted into each other, take the challenge to God.
