ELIMELECH’S DECISION

Ruth 1:1-2 “Now it came to pas in the days when the judges ruled, that was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem-Judah we n t to sojourn in the country of Moab he and his wife and his two sons.

“And the name of the man was Elimelech and he names of his wife Naomi and the name of his two sons Mohlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem-Judah. And they came into the country of Moab and continued there”. Elimelech due to the famine decided to leave the promised land; God’s very presence, God’s covenant land of joy and pleasures (Psalm 16:11). Though from the House of Bread in Judah (Bethlehem-Judah), he decided to leave the house of bread with his family.

“Every man (at that time in the land) did that which was right in his eyes” (Judges 21:25). No seeking of God, No counsel from God, no true God, no teaching priest no law (2 chronicles 15:3). A time of worst moral decadence and spiritual rebellion (Proverbs 3:5-8, Psalm 37:23-25). It important to seek God’s counsel, God’s will in every matter before making any decision.

God is the only one that knows the way through the thickest forest, declaring the end from the beginning. But Elimelech never consulted God before making a concrete and major decision for his family.

Elimelech whos e n ame actually means my God is King, left the kingdom where God (according to his name) is the King reigning in majesty having all things in abundance and went with his entire family to a strange idolatrous kingdom. He left sufficiency for insufficiency.
